THE CHALLENGE
How might we support mental healthcare that enables both consumer and provider in a way that is meaningful and engaging?
WE LEARNED…
Feel what you feel
It can be harmful to resist or deny one’s feelings rather than facing and acknowledging these feelings.
Keeping up the act
Many anxious or depressive episodes occur in social scenarios, making them difficult to navigate without drawing attention from others.
Time after time
Each episode may feel intense and can cloud your memory, making it hard to recall the positive outcomes from previous experiences.
Black mirror
Tech and screens have the capacity for good but when abused can turn on their user.
WE CREATED…
Immersive gameplay using sensory interactions that help players step outside their headspace and into another world.
Simple interactions that allow ease of use when in distress.
Soft narrative for players to connect with and reflect on.
Legacy gameplay allowing players to build their in-game world over multiple plays.
Short game cycle aims at creating a healthy relationship with tech.
Data capture and analytics for review by users as well as a tool for practitioners.
iterative gameplay
Each session players build on previous plays. In this game, players cultivate a garden at the bottom of the ocean eventually producing a flourishing garden where before there was darkness.
This affords players a view of the progress they have made over time and a space to nurture their own mental health.
